... rather than in your personal names.

Do your research and educate yourself on how a trust works and then speak to your solicitor and accountant about the benefits and negatives from purchasing the properties through a “TRUST.”

Ownership of properties through a trust
is primarily for asset protection.

If anybody wants to personally sue you for whatever reason, then they cannot touch any of your assets if they are in a trust. With the ownership of your properties being in a trust, they will always be protected.

Weigh this against the tax benefits of having the title in personal names, since with a trust you do not get the annual tax benefits of negative gearing as you do with ownership in personal names.

Also, you cannot distribute losses to beneficiaries, however you can carry losses forward and offset them against future profits.
